Integrating Engineering and Laboratory Testing

Advanced Soil Testing Australia is a family owned soil testing and geotechnical engineering consultancy based in Murwullimbah, New South Wales. At ASTA we believe in a holistic approach to soil testing. Our combined 17 years experience in geotechnical engineering and soil testing means we not only value the importance of providing accurate results, but we also understand the relationship of the data we produce to your project.

Triaxial Testing

ASTA offers a diverse range of triaxial testing services that can be tailored to suit any needs. Our state-of-the-art triaxial laboratory makes use of high quality equipment manufactured in the UK. Our computer-controlled load frames can be configured to run round the clock and significantly reduce turnaround times. Our modular triaxial cells can be configured to test samples with diameters of 50mm, 63mm, 75, and 100mm. High pressure pumps allow a wide range of effective stresses to be applied to soils of varying stiffnesses, up to a cell pressure of 4MPa.

Waterproof submersible load cells allow an exact measurement of vertical stress, and facilitate the application of anisotropic stress conditions if required. Closed-loop computer-controlled load frames and flushable base-height pore pressure transducers permit stress paths to be accurately monitored in anisotropic as well as isotropic conditions.

Our engineers have experience in testing a wide range of soils; from sensitive, soft undisturbed alluvium to stiff remoulded soil-cement mixtures. Contact us to see if we can assist with your testing schedule.

Oedometer Testing

ASTA makes use of closed loop computer controlled oedometer frames that can be configured to test anything from extremely fine soft clays with long settlement times to hard residual soils. Software controlled loadframes mean turnaround times are kept to an absolute minimum as stresses can be increased around the clock. ASTA offers a typical staged stress oedometer, as well as a constant rate of strain oedometer. Pore pressure measurement at the base of the specimen and the ability to saturate the specimen under a back pressure allow a continuous, rather than incremental, determination of consolidation parameters throughout the loading up to a maximum stress of 25 MPa at 50 mm diameter.
